This little book was amongst the collection from my grandmother. It only measures about 4 inches by 2 inches and the pictures inside are half that size. Some are missing and some have handwritten notes from my grandmother on them. They were taken in 1924 in Broadstairs, Ramsgate and Margate, on the Kent coast and are of my grandmother, her sister, their husbands and my grandmother's niece and nephew.
There's something about tiny photos that completely draws you in.. you have to look so closely at them to see what they are and then they are just like looking at something a long way away.
Joan 1924 |
This is my mother's cousin, Joan, staring out to sea, looking at something way off in the distance! The rather unnerving thing is that, in the photos she looks just like me as a child!

Just the cover of that album makes you want to turn the pages,,,
Modern photo albums (when we actually use them) have nothing on those of the past do they.
You do look the same -- you and Joan. Amazing....but Joan's photo is so dramatic! I, too, have some of those teeny photos; I use a magnifying glass to look!
Both shots are 'lovely' as you say. I wondered why you had that spikey thing on your head, then I peered more closely and realised it was part of the bridge!
She's probably watching a woman rowing in a small rowboat.
The first picture of Joan 'calls' to me somehow and fit's part of the prompt theme perfectly as she looks like she's 'out in the middle of nowhere'.
The first picture looks like it could be an illustration in a children's book.
Very droll Kristin very droll. I couldn't agree with you more Lovely about tiny photos. I find them absolutely compelling.
Joan is waiting for her boat to come in. Delightful photos.
Strange the effect photos of a single child can have --at least on me. Each of the photos brought back a moment in time for me. Or perhaps, it's the similarity of photos we all keep that binds us so close.
How wonderful to have the little album from your grandmother. The picture of Joan staring out to water is so lovely and evocative - it matches this week's theme so well.
It is indeed an eerie thing to see ourselves in early photos of our older relatives and ancestors. If anything would make you a believer in reincarnation, old photos would!
Hi there!
I realise that things were, to say the least, a little fraught and hectic in the latter part of last year for you, but I hope that things are getting a little easier for you. I'd just like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy New Year and hope that your dream of llama farming is a little closer.
Best wishes
Len
