Sepia Saturday

I found this blog the other day and decided to have a go! This is a picture of my Grandmother on holiday!

Thanks for all the comments. I'm getting the hang of this now and realise the idea is to write something to accompany the picture!

We did not find this photo until after my grandmother died. I would guess she would have been about 16 years old and it was probably taken about 1910. I don't know where it was exactly but I would guess somewhere like Brighton or Southend. They lived in London and wouldn't have travelled much further for a holiday.

We (my sister and I) giggled when we saw this photo. Nan had always been rather short and stout, but delighted in telling us that when she was a young girl her waist was so tiny you could get your hands right round it!

I will also visit all your posts and add some comments so be patient with me while I am learning the ropes!

That's an interesting variation on the changing hut. Welcome to Sepia Saturday, and thanks for sharing the rather different image - a good start, and I look forward to seeing more sepia images from your collection.

Welcome to Sepia Saturday! This is a great picture. The changing huts remind me of ones I saw on the Lido in Venice. Where was this picture taken, do you know?

Welcome to Sepia Saturday It is great fun to participate in, share stories and photos and "meet" fellow bloggers. Your photograph made me smile and it is so apt for the prompt.

In an era when so many photos were posed, it's great to see such a naturally happy shot. I can't get my head around pebbles instead of sand at the beach though - we are so lucky in Australia

Great pic of a young person who ended up being a grandma!

From what I remember Brighton has a pebbly beach (I don;t know about Southend). I notice your grandmother is not sitting on the stones. She seems happy to be there.

Welcome to Sepia Saturday, the more the merrier! I guess your grandma is sitting in a changing room. I remember those from the fifties when going to the beach was still regarded sinful by some, certainly on a Sunday...

Welcome to Sepia Saturday. Your grandmother looks happy - weren't all of us who lived in cold climates thrilled when we got to the beach.

Welcome from Netherlands! Your grandma looks having much fun. I've never seen a changing room, but it is a great idea. We struggled with towels and petticoats.

What a happy photo! I was trying to make out what she had inside of the tent, it first appears like a fan?

She looks like she's having a good laugh. Perhaps she was older than 16 and when she was even younger she was slim. You never know.

Welcome to the Gang!

What I love about this photo is the absolute mirth about your grandmother's face. She is having a wonderful time, isn't she?

I think perhaps the lads she knew had very large hands, the better to encircle that rather generous waistline. She didn't bank on you finding this photograph, did she?

Great stuff! I look forward to your future posts, and will add you immediately, to my sidebar at Acadianeire's Heritage.

Be more dog

I'm always grateful that we have our dogs. We had never been dog owners up until our move but it had been something that we both wanted ...
